Strategy 9. Provide opportunities for students to engage in mathematical discourse and share and discuss their mathematical ideas, even those that may not be fully formed or completely accurate.
Strategy 10. Provide opportunities for students to build on their reasoning and sense-making skills about fractions by working with a variety of manipulatives and tools.
Both of these strategies can be supported whenever using the fractions tools. During whole class instruction, the tools create opportunities for mathematical discourse betweens students and instructors. The breadth of interactive fractions models provided, including fraction bars, area model, discrete model, number line, pattern blocks and unitizing on a grid, present engaging interactive platforms for students to build upon their reasoning.
