Steve Leinwand

Steve Leinwand

Steve Leinwand has over 30 years of leadership positions in mathematics education. As a Principal Research Analyst at the American Institutes for Research (AIR) in Washington, D.C., Steve supports a broad range of mathematics education initiatives.

Before joining AIR, Steve spent 22 years as Mathematics Consultant with the Connecticut Department of Education where he was responsible for the development and oversight of statewide activities in K-12 mathematics education. Steve has served on the Mathematical Sciences Education Board during the development and publication of “Everybody Counts”, as president of the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics, and on the NCTM Board of Directors where he helped to review NCTM’s “Principles and Standards for School Mathematics. Steve is also an author of several mathematics textbooks, articles, and books on mathematics instruction, including most recently, “Accessible Math: 10 Instructional Shifts that Raise Student Achievement.”

Sara Delano Moore

Sara Delano Moore

Sara Delano Moore is a mathematics education consultant focused on helping teachers and students understand mathematics as a coherent and connected discipline.

A fourth-generation educator, Sara’s work emphasizes the power of deep understanding and multiple representations for learning. Her interests include building conceptual understanding of mathematics to support procedural fluency and applications, incorporating engaging and high-quality literature into mathematics & science instruction, and connecting mathematics with engineering design in meaningful ways. Sara has worked as a classroom teacher of mathematics and science in the elementary and middle grades, a mathematics teacher educator at the University of Kentucky, and Director of Mathematics & Science at ETA hand2mind. She has authored several articles in NCTM journals and is a contributing author to Visible Learning in Mathematics.

Dan Meyer

Dan Meyer

Dan Meyer taught high school math to students who didn't like high school math. He has advocated for better math instruction on CNN, Good Morning America, TED.com and Everyday With Rachel Ray, and is the author of the dy/dan blog. He earned his doctorate from Stanford University in math education and is the Chief Academic Officer at Desmos, where he explores the future of math, technology, and learning. Dan speaks internationally and was named one of Tech & Learning’s 30 Leaders of the Future. He lives in Oakland, CA.

Julie McNamara

Julie McNamara

Julie McNamara is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education at CSU East Bay. Before joining the Teacher Education Department at CSU East Bay, Julie supported mathematics teachers as a designer and provider of mathematics professional development for TeachingWorks, Math Solutions, and as an independent consultant. Julie is a former school teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her graduate studies were in the Development in Mathematics and Science program at the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. in mathematics education. Her research focuses on the teaching and learning of mathematics concepts that are foundational but considered “hard to teach and hard to learn.” Julie is also the author of Beyond Invert and Multiply: Making Sense of Fraction Computation, Grades 3-6, as well as the co-author of Beyond Pizzas and Pies: 10 Essential Strategies for Supporting Fraction Sense, Grades 3-5.

Graham Fletcher

Graham Fletcher

Graham Fletcher has worked in education for over ten years as a classroom teacher, math coach, and currently as a district math specialist.

He graduated from the University of Georgia where he earned his specialist degree in Math Education. Graham’s passion for conceptual understanding through problem-based lessons has led him to present internationally and throughout the United States.​ He is the author of many elementary 3-act tasks, which can be found at gfletchy.com. It's in this space and beyond that Graham continues to be an advocate for best practice and a change agent for ​K-5 mathematics.
