Accessibility. We're committed to making our software accessible to students with disabilities and are members of the ATIA (Assistive Technology Industry Association). We appreciate the ongoing support of leaders in the assistive technology community in testing the accessibility of our tools and making recommendations for improvements.

Many areas of access have been updated as of January, 2011. Others we plan to address thereafter. The areas currently available are described below. If you're interested in a deeper discussion about accessibility issues, please visit the discussion group on our community site.

Keyboard access

  • The Tab key can be used to advance the selection and the Space key used to select.
  • Up and down buttons on-screen will advance the sliders to change the number of equal parts.
  • The Enter key can be used to Check Work and to move on to the next problem in a lesson.
  • When a list box has focus, the up and down arrows scroll through the list.
  • Some of the higher order thinking tools are not yet accessible via the keyboard. This work is in progress.

IntelliKeys Access

The Math Access Overlay (IntelliKeys standard overlay) works pretty well. We have also created a custom Conceptua Fractions Overlay for download. You'll need Overlay Maker 3 (by IntelliTools) to edit it. You can also download the PDF version.

Low Vision
  • Regarding screen contrast, we have large yellow tooltips for many of the tools now, as well as for our feedback.
  • We have large red highlights around the focus objects partially implemented at this time.
  • The screen colors can viewed in high-contrast using accommodations like ZoomText, or by changing the access setting on the Mac OS.

Auditory support

  • Auditory support includes sounds for button clicks, scan sounds (tab key), correct, incorrect and checkbox select. Sounds can be enabled via Settings.
AAC device support

The lessons can be used through leading AAC devices by sending tab, space and number keys. The enter keys also can be used to check work.

  • PRC ECO-14 : Download the .mti file. This file will only work on this particular device, it is not transferable to other devices of the same brand, even the newer version of the same device.

Switch scanning
  • Two-switch scanning access works through Tab and Space. A floating number pad makes number entry available.
  • Some of the higher order thinking tools are not yet accessible via the keyboard. This work is in progress.
  • Single-switch scanning is a possibility we will be exploring for the future.
